Ex-Telangana CM writes letter to Justice Narasimha Reddy, says impartiality of probe doubtful

Hyderabad: Former Telangana CM and BRS chief K Chandrasekhar Rao (KCR), in a letter to Justice L Narasimha Reddy, urged the latter to step down as the head of Commission of inquiry into power purchase agreements and accused him of bias, lack of objectivity.

The commission has been constituted by the current Congress government to probe power purchase agreements made during KCR’s tenure as CM. The BRS leader in the 12-page letter alleged that Justice Reddy pre-judged the outcomes.

“According to the AP Re-organisation Act, the electricity allotted to Telangana was below our requirements. We had taken measures to strengthen the power distribution system and all kinds of approvals have been obtained and progress has been made. A commission was set up by a political party to discredit me and the then government. Everyone knows that our government has given electricity with a significant change. This is an attempt to downplay the change we brought in,” the letter read.

“In the press conference, the commission spoke as it liked. Inquiry is a sacred duty. Mediate between the two parties and settle the matter. Decisions should be made after comprehensive examination of all aspects. Your investigation lacks impartiality. Whatever I say in front of you will be of no use. It is better if we take into consideration the points mentioned and withdraw. I humbly request you to step down from the commission,” KCR further wrote.

Justice L. Narasimha Reddy had recently issued notices to former CM KCR in the matter of electricity procurement in Telangana, buying electricity from Chhattisgarh and construction of power plants without tender and only by nomination.
