Date confirmed for Arsenal and Manchester United’s FA Cup clash

New Delhi: The third round of the FA Cup will see Arsenal play Manchester United on Sunday, January 12 at 3 p.m.; BBC One will broadcast the match. Prior to their 2-0 league victory over the Red Devils on Wednesday, the Gunners were drawn against Ruben Amorim’s team. The first two rounds of the Gunners’ participation in the competition will see them play one of the “Big Six” for the third consecutive season. Simply put, Mikel Arteta seemed happy that the Emirates Stadium will host the match.

With Arsenal leading the way with 14 trophies and United following closely behind with 13, the two teams are the most successful in the history of the competition. Arsenal has won seven of the 16 FA Cup meetings between the two teams, including two finals in 1979 and 2005. United defeated the other team 3-1 at the Emirates in their previous meeting, which took place in the third round.

In addition, both teams are still in the Carabao Cup this season, with United playing Spurs in the quarterfinals and Arsenal playing Crystal Palace. Two further games between the teams could be added to the calendar if they advance to the semi-finals and draw with one another: one in February and one five days before to the FA Cup match.

In their most recent Premier League outing last night, Arsenal managed to win the game 2-0, after a second-half onslaught at the Emirates. The Gunners’ skill with set pieces was the decisive factor. After a lackluster first half, the home team picked up their pace and sent in a string of dangerous corners, two of which resulted in goals, condemning United to their first loss under Ruben Amorim. A wicked Rice delivery was first flicked home by Timber, and then Saliba accidentally converted another with his rear end.

Mikel Arteta’s side will walk into the match with great confidence and Ruben Amorim needs to have a major impact on the players after their defeat at Emirates.
