Lima: A powerful earthquake of magnitude 6.0 on the Richter scale on Sunday struck near the coast of Peru causing a major chaos in the region. The earthquake tremors, which hit the Peru region at around 8.17 pm, as per the Indian time, were felt across the country.
The National Center for Seismology (NCS), a nodal agency of India, stated that the earthquake of magnitude 6 struck near coast of Peru on June 16 at around 8.17 pm, The quake was at a depth of 10 km (6.21 miles), as per the nodal agency.
In a post on X, the National Center for Seismology, said, “Earthquake of Magnitude 6.0, on June 16, 2024 at 20.17 IST, Latitude 15.79 South, Longitude: 74.38 West, Depth: 10 Km, Location: Near Coast of Peru.”
No reports of loss of life and property have received so far, according to the sources.
