New Delhi: England captain Jos Buttler smashed five back-to-back sixes during his side’s Super 8 clash against the USA at Kensington Oval in Barbados on June 23. Chasing the target of 116 runs, a 117-run opening partnership between Philip Salt and Buttler took the team over the line as England chased down the target in 10.4 overs.

Buttler scored an unbeaten 83 runs off 38 balls, his explosive knock was laced with seven maximums and four boundaries. He smacked Harmeet Singh for five consecutive sixes in the 9th over. He smashed the first six over long-off on the second ball and completed his half-century. On the next ball, he smacked a six over deep mid-wicket and on the fourth delivery, Buttler smashed a maximum straight down the ground. He struck two sixes towards deep square leg and long-on in the last two balls of the over.

England qualify for semi-final

England defeated the USA by 10 wickets and qualified for the semi-final of the T20 World Cup 2024. England bowlers restricted USA on 115 runs. Nitish Kumar scored 30 runs off 24 balls and Corey Anderson scored 29 runs off 28 balls. But others batters failed to contribute to the team’s total. Chris Jordan took his first hat-trick of T20 World Cup, he picked up 4 wickets and gave away just 10 runs in 2.5 overs. Sam Curran and Adil Rashid also got two wickets each.

Chasing the target, Buttler and Salt stitched a 117-run opening partnership and chased down the target comfortably. England’s first group stage match against Scotland was washed out and they lost their second match against Australia. But Jos Buttler and Co. made a sensational comeback and won their next two matches against Oman and Namibia and qualified for the Super 8 stage.

They defeated hosts West Indies by 8 wickets in the first match of the Super 8 but lost their second match against South Africa by 7 runs. England defeated USA by 10 wickets and qualified for the semi-final.
