Beijing: Atleast 11 people died and 30 got injured after a highway bridge collapsed partially in Shangluo city of western China at 8:40 pm on Friday, according to the reports of Xinhua citing local authorities.
As per the provincial publicity department, the incident occurred due to sudden downpours and flash floods.
As reported by the Chinese Media Agency Xinhua, by 10 a.m. on Saturday, rescue teams had retrieved five vehicles that had fallen into the river following the collapse.
30 People Missing After Accident
As per the media reports, 30 people are missing after the incident.
Since Tuesday, large parts of Northern and Central China have been facing heavy rainfall, causing widespread floods.
In a sequence of events, five people died and eight were missing after rains sparked flooding and mudslides in Shaanxi’s Baoji city.
Earlier this month, a quarter of a million people in eastern China were affected after rainstorms battered the region, causing the Yangtze and other rivers to swell.
