New Delhi: Chennai Super Kings (CSK) pacer Tushar Deshpande paid a heartfelt tribute to the legendary MS Dhoni on the occasion of Guru Purnima. The auspicious day which is being celebrated on Sunday, July 21 is dedicated to spiritual teachers and gurus who help their students learn important life lessons.
Deshpande took to social media to express his gratitude to his two gurus on Guru Purnima – his father and his former captain MS Dhoni. He shared a picture of his father posing with Dhoni and paid tribute to both. He captioned the picture with Guru Brahma Mantra and shared it on his Instagram story.

Deshpande recently made his international debut for India in the T20I series against Zimbabwe. The CSK pacer earned his maiden India cap in the 4th T20I of the series and finished with figures of 1/30. He also played in the fifth and final T20I against the hosts and picked up a solitary wicket to finish the series with two wickets to his name.
Deshpande earned his maiden India call-up for the Zimbabwe series after his impressive show for Chennai Super Kings in IPL 2024. The pacer picked up 17 wickets in the season and was the highest wicket-taker for the franchise in IPL 2024. Deshpande, who made his IPL debut under Dhoni’s captaincy for CSK in 2020, has improved massively and become one of the vital cogs in the team’s bowling attack.

Deshpande has witnessed a remarkable rise at Chennai Super Kings as his performances have improved significantly under the guidance of Dhoni. However, it is a long way for the pacer to play regularly for India. Deshpande was not picked in India’s squad for the T20I series against Sri Lanka after returning from Zimbabwe and will be focusing on delivering consistently in domestic cricket and the IPL to cement his spot in the India squad.
