New Delhi: The two-match Test series between India and Bangladesh starts on September 19 and all eyes will be on star batter Virat Kohli, who is on the verge of creating history.
After winning the T20 World Cup 2024 in Barbados he has only played three matches in the ODI series against Sri Lanka. He struggled against Sri Lankan spin bowlers and only managed to score 58 runs in three matches.
After the ODI series, Kohli spent some time with his family in London. He last played Test cricket for India during the series against South Africa in January. The star batter missed the home Test series against England due to the birth of his son Akaay. He has landed in Chennai from London for the preparations of the upcoming Test series.
Kohli has so far scored 26,942 runs in 533 international matches and if he scores 58 more runs in the upcoming Test series against Bangladesh, he will become the fastest cricketer to reach 27,000 runs in international cricket.
Kohli can break Sachin Tendulkar’s record
Indian cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar scored 27,000 runs in 623 innings (226 Test innings, 396 ODI innings, 1 T20I innings) and if Kohli manages to score 58 runs in the next 8 innings, he will become the fastest batter to reach the milestone. He will also become the first cricketer in the 147-year history of international cricket to reach 27,000 runs in less than 600 innings.
Apart from Sachin, only Kumar Sangakkara and Ricky Ponting have scored 27,000 runs in international cricket. Tendulkar has scored 34,357 runs in 782 innings including 100 centuries and Sangakkara amassed 28,016 runs in 666 innings with 63 hundreds. Ponting scored 27,483 runs in 668 innings, including 71 centuries.
Virat Kohli announced his retirement from T20 internationals after winning the 2024 T20 World Cup. He has scored 4,188 runs in 125 T20I matches. In Tests, Kohli has scored 8,848 runs in 113 matches, including 29 centuries. In ODIs, he has amassed 13,906 runs in 295 matches.
Former India captain Virat Kohli has scored 26,942 runs across 591 innings in Tests, ODIs, and T20s and needs 58 runs to break Sachin Tendulkar’s record. Cricket Sports News: Latest Cricket News, Cricket Live Score, Sports Breaking News from Sports Today
