Explained! Why Alyssa Healy is not leading Australia in Women’s T20 WC clash vs India

New Delhi: Australia were handed a huge blow ahead of their all-important clash against India in the ongoing Women’s T20 World Cup 2024 as captain Alyssa Healy was ruled out of the game due to an injury. Healy suffered a foot injury on Friday but was expected to make the cut for the blockbuster encounter against India.

However, Cricket Australia in a statement confirmed that Healy was ruled out of the game after failing to recover from her injury. Healy was retired hurt after getting hit on the foot while batting in Australia’s clash against Pakistan. She was spotted arriving at Sharjah Cricket Stadium in Sharjah on crutches ahead of the game against India on Sunday.

“Alyssa Healy is unavailable for tonight’s game after suffering a foot injury on Friday night. She will continue to be assessed over the coming days and should Australia qualify for the semi finals, her availability will be determined in due course,” Cricket Australia said in a statement.

Tahlia McGrath replaced Alyssa Healy as captain

All-rounder Tahlia McGrath, who is the team’s vice-captain, replaced Healy as the stand-in skipper for the crucial clash against India in Sharjah. McGrath confirmed at toss that Australia have roped in senior batter Grace Harris to take Healy’s spot as an opener in the team while Beth Mooney will keep the wickets for the team in the regular skipper’s absence.
