New Delhi: The Prime Minister Internship Scheme has turned out to be a hit amongst the masses. Over 1,55,000 candidates have already applied for the scheme, reports stated on Monday. While presenting the Union Budget 2024-25, the government announced the comprehensive scheme for providing internship opportunities in top companies. This is the 5th scheme under the Prime Minister’s package.
While announcing the scheme, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman had said that the scheme is aimed at providing internship opportunities in 500 top companies to 1 crore youth in 5 years.
“They will gain exposure for 12 months to real-life business environment, varied professions and employment opportunities. An internship allowance of ` 5,000 per month along with a one-time assistance of Rs 6,000 will be provided to the youth. Companies will be expected to bear the training cost and 10 per cent of the internship cost from their CSR funds,” Sitharaman said.
The interested candidates can register themselves by visiting the pminternship.mca.gov.in website. India Today reported that over 190 companies including Jubilant Foodworks, Maruti Suzuki India, Larsen & Toubro, and others have posted internship opportunities on the platform.
The portal ensures efficient access to internships across sectors with Aadhaar-based registration and tools like bio-data generation.
The Modi 3.0 Government’s ambitious project offers a 12-month internship program. People inn the age group of 21 to 24 years, and are not employed full-time or engaged in full-time education can apply for the scheme. The Project aims for 1.25 lakh internships for the Financial Year 2024-25.
“The Ministry of Corporate Affairs Ministry identified top 500 companies based on their average CSR expenditure over the last three years. Other companies, banks, or financial institutions can also participate with approval from the Ministry of Corporate Affairs (MCA), particularly if they represent underrepresented sectors. Companies can set up their profiles through the official Portal by following the user manual,” the government release stated.
