New Delhi: Team India skipper Rohit Sharma will be flying out to Australia in the coming days and is expected to join his teammates in Perth on November 24, as reported by Cricbuzz. It will be the third day of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy’s first Test at the Optus Stadium. Rohit didn’t travel with the team to Australia in view of the birth of his second child. The other players left for down under in three batches between November 10 and 11 sans Rohit who awaited his second child’s birth.
Rohit welcomed a baby boy with his wife Ritika Sajdeh on November 15 and since then, speculations have been rife over Rohit’s arrival in Perth for the BGT. Many reports had suggested that the Indian skipper would be in Perth much before the start of the first Test i.e. Friday (November 22) but it seemed clear that he would delay his travel. According to Cricbuzz, Rohit has informed all the concerned authorities in the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) that he would join the team on Sunday.
Bumrah in touch with Rohit
In the wake of Rohit’s absence from the first Test, Jasprit Bumrah will be leading the team in the five-day affair at Perth. In the pre-match press conference on Thursday, he spoke about being in touch with Rohit. “I spoke with Rohit earlier. But I got a little bit of clarity on leading the side after coming in here,” Bumrah told media on the eve of the Perth Test.
Bumrah also pleased the Indian fans as he hinted at the likely inclusion of Mohammed Shami in the India squad. “Shami bhai has started to play cricket, and obviously, he is an integral part of this team. I’m sure the management is also keeping a keen eye. Hopefully, things fall in place and you might see him here as well,” the right-arm pacer explained.
After a successful recovery from his long-standing ankle injury, Shami has been asked to play domestic games and has been included in the Bengal squad for the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. The T20 event begins on November 23 in different centres and Shami will be featuring in Rajkot. It is understood that he will have to get the clearance from the National Cricket Academy (NCA) before he can be considered for the Australia Tests.
Rohit Sharma will reportedly join his teammates for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy on November 24 when the series opener will be under progress in Perth. Cricket Sports News: Latest Cricket News, Cricket Live Score, Sports Breaking News from Sports Today
