New Delhi: Australia will be up against India in the series opener of the five-Test Border Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) scheduled at the Optus Stadium in Perth beginning on November 22, Friday. India are left with five Tests in the build-up to the World Test Championship (WTC) 2025 final and won’t be leaving any stone unturned in order to seal a berth in the momentous clash, for which the BGT is a crucial event.
India are already without their regular skipper Rohit Sharma who is back home with his family as he was recently blessed with a baby boy. He will reportedly join the Indian squad on November 24, which will be the third day of the opening Test in Perth. In his absence, Jasprit Bumrah was named the captain of India for the first Test. Also missing the first Test will be Shubman Gill who is recovering from a thumb injury.
On the other hand, Australia will be led by Pat Cummins – the captain who has been hustling for the Kangaroos since last year. He has already said that beating India in the series is one of his major wishes for his captaincy tenure and he wants to tick that off. He led Australia to victory against India in the WTC 2023 final and the ODI World Cup 2023 final. Nonetheless, it will be interesting to watch these two sides engage in the red-ball battle for the next month and a half.
