New Delhi: Mumbai skipper Shreyas Iyer smashed an unbeaten century against Goa in the opening match of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy at the Gymkhana Stadium in Hyderabad on Saturday. He scored an unbeaten 130 runs off 57 balls with the help of 11 boundaries and 10 maximums, taking Mumbai to a massive total of 250 runs in 20 overs.
This was Iyer’s first outing in the domestic tournament since 2022 and he sent a strong message to Indian selectors with his sensational hundred. He hit third century in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy and equalled the record for the most hundreds in the tournament.
Iyer auditions for IPL 2025 mega-auction
Iyer’s knock came at a very crucial time as the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) will conduct the IPL 2025 mega-auction on November 24 and 25 in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.
He led Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) to their third IPL title in 2024 but was not retained by the franchise ahead of the mega auction. The two parties couldn’t agree on retaining fees and Shreyas also wanted to test his worth in the IPL auction.
His brilliant knock will definitely catch the attention of other franchises and he could potentially break the bank at the auction table. As per reports, Delhi Capitals (DC), Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and Punjab Kings (PBKS) are interested in buying Iyer.
