IPL mega auction: CSK make Afghan spinner Noor Ahmad sought-after spin pick at Rs 10 crore

New Delhi: Afghanistan spinner Noor Ahmad attracted significant attention at the Indian Premier League mega auction, with Chennai Super Kings shelling out Rs 10 crore in Jeddah on Sunday, making him the most expensive but fron the capped sinners set (set seven).

Five-times champions CSK found themselves in a bidding war with Mumbai Indians for the wriest spinner. When the bid rose to Rs 5 crore, Mumbai opted out.

But Gujarat Titans exercised the right to match (RTM) option after which CSK bid Rs 10 crore to bag the young left-arm wristspinner.

Sri Lankan leg spinner Wanindu Hasaranga got a winning bid of Rs 5.25 crore from Rajasthan Royals after starting from a base price of Rs 2 crore.

Mumbai too bid for them but backed out when the price tag reached Rs 5 crore.

Sunrisers Hyderabad snapped up Australian leg spinner for Rs 2.4 crore, up from a base price of Rs 2 crore after getting Indian leg-spinner Rahul Chahar for Rs 3.2 crore.

Chahar’s base price was Rs 1 crore and received bids for Mumbai and Lucknow Super Giants. Punjab Kings had a RTM option but don’t exercise it.

Sri Lankan Maheesh Theekshana went to Rajasthan Royals for 4.40 crore while Waqar Salamkheil, who has a base price of Rs 75 lakh, went unsold.

Pant becomes highest IPL buy ever

Earlier, Rishabh Pant became the costliest player in IPL’s history as Lucknow Super Giants bid Rs 27 crore.

Iyer had become the costliest player momentarily when Punjab Kings bid Rs 26.75 crore, surpassing Kolkata Knight Riders’ Rs 24.75 crore for Australian pacer Mitchell Starc last year.

But after getting involved in a bidding war with Sunrisers Hyderabad, LSG outdid Delhi Capitals’ right to match option (RTM) option with a bid of Rs 27 crore.
