New Delhi: Pace spearhead Umran Malik, who remained unsold midway during the second day’s proceedings of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 mega auction, finally found himself a home. During the accelerated phase of the mega auction in the late hours, all of the players who either went unsold on Day 1 or didn’t show up, went under the hammer and some good buys emerged indeed as Umran was picked by Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at his base price of Rs. 75 lakh.
Umran Malik was one such name who remained unsold when he was up for bidding during the early hours of the day. The outcome left the cricket world shocked as Umran was deemed the next big thing in Indian cricket a few years back due to his searing pace. The pacer, who hails from Jammu, grabbed eyeballs with his fast bowling as cricket pundits hailed him as a quality fast bowler clocking 150+ kmph.
Although it still remains shocking to see the downfall of Umran who debuted in the IPL with Sunrisers Hyderabad in 2021. He remained with the team until 2024 and will now move to a new dressing room located at Kolkata’s Eden Gardens, to call it his IPL home. The capped pacer has represented India in the T20Is and ODIs, debuting in 2022 and last featuring in an ODI clash in July 2023. In the 26 IPL matches, he has bagged 29 wickets at an average of 26.62 and an economy of 9.4.

Arjun Tendulkar retained by MI
Arjun Tendulkar, son of legendary Sachin Tendulkar, at first saw no bids for him in the auction room in Jeddah and remained unsold at the IPL 2025 mega auction. But… during the next round of the unsold players, his name popped up again, and this time, his former franchise Mumbai Indians (MI) bagged him at his base price of Rs. 30 lakh. There was no other bid in the room for Arjun to counter Mumbai as they easily put him in their kitty.

His IPL journey started with Mumbai Indians (MI) as they picked him ahead of the IPL 2021 auction but only handed him a debut in the 2023 season. He played a few games for MI in the IPL 2024 as well, having represented them in just five matches as a bowling allrounder.
His performance remained poor as he could just pick three wickets at an average of 38 and an economy of 9.37 in those five games and could only score 13 runs. He was released by the franchise ahead of the mega auction but now has been retained by them.
Umran Malik finally found a home in the IPL as he was picked by KKR at his base price of Rs. 75 lakh at the mega auction in Jeddah on Monday. Meanwhile, Arjun Tendulkar, who played for MI in the last two seasons, was retained by them at his base price!
