New Delhi: It was an enthralling and record-breaking mega auction as all ten teams spent big money to strengthen their respective squads at the two-day Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 mega auction in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. The ten teams spent a whopping Rs 639.15 crore on 182 players at the IPL 2025 mega auction, the highest amount of money spent in an auction in the history of the tournament.
Team India wicket-keeper batter Rishabh Pant emerged as the most expensive pick in IPL history after he was sold to Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) for a whopping Rs 27 crore on Day 1 of the mega auction. Pant surpassed Shreyas Iyer, who was sold to Punjab Kings for Rs 26.75 crore, breaking the previous record held by Mitchell Starc.
Marquee Indian players were in demand throughout the IPL 2025 mega auction as the likes of Venkatesh Iyer, Arshdeep Singh and Yuzvendra Chahal featured in the top five most expensive picks at the auction. While KKR went all out to resign Venkatesh Iyer for Rs 23.75 crore, Punjab Kings roped in Arshdeep and Chahal for Rs 18 crore each.
It was a roller-coaster ride for the fans and all ten IPL franchises as they had their moments of highs and lows at the IPL 2025 mega auction in Jeddah. While some managed to nail their desired targets, others had to settle for second-choice players, but at the end of the auction, most teams managed to build strong squads on paper ahead of an exciting season.
While Pant was the most expensive pick on Day 1 of the IPL 2025 mega auction, veteran Indian pacer Bhuvneshwar Kumar emerged as the costliest pick on Day 2 after he was sold to Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) for Rs 10.75 crore. Meanwhile, some big names went unsold as the likes of David Warner and Jonny Bairstow failed to find any buyers at the IPL 2025 mega auction.
