New Delhi: Tamil Nadu all-rounder Vijay Shankar went bonkers as he smashed three sixes in an over against Team India star Hardik Pandya in his side’s clash against Baroda in the ongoing Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2024 on Wednesday, November 11. Shankar, who was bought by Chennai Super Kings (CSK) at the recently concluded IPL 2025 mega auction, looked in destructive touch against Baroda.

The out-of-favour India all-rounder played a sublime knock of 42 runs off 22 balls laced with six fours to help Tamil Nadu post a huge total of 221/6, batting first against Baroda at the Holkar Cricket Stadium in Indore. Shankar went berserk against Pandya as he took the star all-rounder to the cleaners en route his quickfire 42-run knock.

Shankar hit as many as three sixes in Pandya’s over, including two consecutive maximums to power Tamil Nadu to a huge total. Shankar’s onslaught meant Pandya ended up conceding 44 runs in just three overs in the match while going wicket-less. A clip of Shankar’s sixes against Pandya took social media by storm with CSK fans expressing their happiness over their new recruit’s top-notch form.

Shankar was bought by CSK for Rs 1.20 crore at the IPL 2025 mega auction as the five-time champions beat his former team Gujarat Titans to his signing. Shankar might be utilised in the lower middle order or at no.3 by CSK depending on his form in IPL 2025. Apart from Shankar, CSK also roped in the likes of Rahul Tripathi and Deepak Hooda to build a solid Indian core for their batting line-up.

Tamil Nadu post 221/6 against Baroda in SMAT 2024

Tamil Nadu rode on wicket-keeper batter N Jagadeesan’s quickfire half-century and cameos from Shahrukh Khan and Shankar to post a strong total of 221/6 against Baroda in their SMAT 2024 clash in Indore. Jagadeesan scored 57 off 32 balls laced with 5 fours and 3 sixes while Shahrukh scored 25-ball 39 with the help of 3 fours and 2 sixes.

Shankar added the finish touches to Tamil Nadu’s innings with his 42 off 22. The all-rounder will be looking to continue his fine form with the bat in the remainder of the tournament to be ready to play for CSK in IPL 2025 next year.
