New Delhi: Uttrakhand Chief Minister Phuskar Singh Dhami attended the launch of the 38th National Games in Dehradun on Sunday, December 15, where logo, theme song and mascot were unveiled.
Dhami said that the 38th National Games will be based on ‘Green Games’ theme and the event will give the state a new identity. The Indian Olympic Association (IOA) announced the dates and events for the 38th National Games in Uttarakhand on Monday.
The 38th National Games will bring together athletes from across India to compete in a total of 36 disciplines, including 32 official sports and four demonstration events.
Initially, under the original Memorandum of Understanding signed between the IOA and the Uttarakhand State Olympic Association (USOA) in 2014, the National Games were expected to feature 34 sports disciplines.
However, the adjustments were made after the government of Uttarakhand reaffirmed its readiness to host the events with all required facilities and resources. The IOA president PT Usha and its games technical conduct committee (GTCC) authorised 32 sports disciplines and four demonstration sports events for the 38th edition of the National Games in the meeting recently.
The IOA president said that the National Games in Uttarakhand promises to be landmark tournament in promoting both modern and traditional sports in the country. She also talked the inclusion of demonstration sports and said that it reflects IOA’s commitment to honour the rich heritage of India.

The inclusion of demonstration sports like Kalarippayattu, Yogasana, Mallakhamb, and Rafting reflects our commitment to honouring India’s rich heritage while encouraging new opportunities for athletes” said IOA president Usha.
