New Delhi: Former Barcelona and Uruguay striker Luis Suarez has committed to another year with MLS side Inter Miami after a stellar 2024 campaign. The 37-year-old played a pivotal role in helping his team set the MLS regular season points record and secure the 2024 Supporters’ Shield.
Suarez left Gremio after his contract expired with them in December 2023 and joined Inter Miami on a year deal until January 2025. The star striker agreed to make a move as he got attracted by the thought of a reunion with his ex-Barcelona teammates Lionel Messi, Jordi Alba, and Sergio Busquets.
President of Inter Miami Football Operations Raul Sanllehi also expressed his confidence in Suarez, highlighting his influence both on and off the pitch. He said, “In 2024, Luis brought to Inter Miami all of the elements that make him one of the greatest strikers of all time.” Sanllehi highlighted Suarez’s professionalism and leadership, calling him a benchmark for the squad and expressing excitement about what the striker could bring in the upcoming season.

The Uruguay striker has scored 25 goals in 37 appearances across all competitions for the Herons and was tied with his teammate Messi at 20 goals during the regular season. Suarez has also recorded nine assists during the regular season and even added two goals in the 2024 MLS postseason.
After signing the contract the former Barcelona and Liverpool man said, “I’m very happy, very excited to continue for another year and to be able to enjoy being here with this fan base, which for us is like family. We feel very, very connected with them, and hopefully, next year, we can bring them even more joy.”
