New Delhi: Money shelling was not a problem at the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 mega auction as a whopping Rs. 639.15 crore was spent by the ten franchises to buy 182 players during the two-day event in Jeddah. Several players fetched big bucks at the auction and Indians specifically were in heavy demand. The likes of Rishabh Pant, Shreyas Iyer, and Venkatesh Iyer were sold for over Rs. 23 crore.
Among these 182 sold players, there are a few who saw themselves getting the highest pay cut during the auction. These players were in huge demand at the mini auction of IPL 2024 while some teams opted to retain some of these for a huge sum. However, this was not the case for them at the mega auction as they were sold for a considerably meager amount than their name brand and what they are capable of.
Players with highest pay cuts in IPL 2025 auction
Sam Curran
Curran turned out to be a steal deal and what can also be said as a bargain buy for Chennai Super Kings (CSK). He played for the franchise in the 2020 and 2021 seasons and has made a return to the team after three years. He was with Punjab Kings (PBKS) for the last two seasons which paid him a massive Rs. 18.5 crore. He took a pay cut of almost 87% (Rs. 16.1 crore) as CSK bought him at just Rs. 2.4 crore.
Mitchell Starc
The Australian quick made headlines during the IPL 2024 auction when he was sold to Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) for a jaw-dropping Rs. 24.75 crore. However, he proved too costly for them as his performance remained below par this year and was therefore released by the team ahead of the auction. He was picked by Delhi Capitals (DC) at the mega auction for a price of Rs. 11.75 crore which means his pay cut is Rs. 13 crore.
Sameer Rizvi
The uncapped allrounder was a surprise buy of Chennai Super Kings (CSK) at the IPL 2024 auction as the franchise shelled out a mouth-watering Rs. 8.4 crore on him. However, he wasn’t of much use to the team during the 2024 season and was therefore released. Delhi Capitals bought him for just Rs. 95 lakhs at the mega auction, as his pay was cut Rs. 7.45 crore short.
Spencer Johnson
The left-arm pacer was sold to Gujarat Titans for a massive Rs. 10 crore at the IPL 2024 auction but didn’t prove worth the money for them. His performance remained mediocre which forced the team to release him. The Australian was bought by KKR for just Rs. 2.8 crore, making it a steal deal. His price therefore dropped by Rs. 7.2 crore, making him another player with the highest pay cut.
Glenn Maxwell
The star Australian all-rounder has been an IPL regular now. He was a part of Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) for the last four seasons and his salary last year at RCB was Rs. 11 crore. He was also a shocking release by the franchise and was claimed by Punjab Kings (PBKS) at the mega auction. The franchise only had to leak Rs. 4.2 crore for Maxwell as he took a pay cut of Rs. 6.8 crore.
