How ex-bowling coach Bharat Arun helped Mohammad Siraj in reviving his form for India

New Delhi: Indian pacer Mohammed Siraj has been in fine form with the ball in the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy between India and Australia. Siraj played perfect support to the likes of Jasprit Bumrah and Harshit Rana in the pace attack as India defeated Australia by 295 runs in the 1st Test in Perth to go 1-0 up in the blockbuster five-match series.

While Bumrah stole the show with his impressive bowling, Siraj too bowled consistent lengths and troubled the Aussie batters. The right-arm pacer finished the game with five wickets across the two innings. With his impressive show, Siraj managed to shut down his critics who questioned his inclusion in the side over Akash Deep.

The Indian pacer admitted recently that he was not in the best form as far as his bowling was concerned and was not enjoying his game at all. Siraj played two matches against New Zealand in the three-match Test series at home where he managed only two wickets before being dropped. He was earlier dropped from the XI at home during the England Test series.

“I could feel that I was not enjoying my bowling, As a person, I am someone who gets a different feeling when I am enjoying my bowling, even if I am not getting wickets. And now when I was not getting wickets, I went a bit deep into why I was not getting them,” Siraj was quoted as saying by ESPNCricinfo.

Bharat Arun’s role in Mohammed Siraj’s revival

Siraj further revealed how he approached former India bowling coach Arun to help him with his bowling form and get things back on track before the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25. Siraj revealed Arun played a key role in his revival. Arun played an instrumental role in integrating Siraj into the Indian Test team during his time as the bowling coach of the national team.

“I spoke with Bharat Arun sir, that this is what’s happening with me. Because he has known me for a while and he has seen my bowling from a long time back. So he just told me to enjoy and not run after wickets. Just enjoy and you will get wickets. And before travelling, I met (ex-fielding coach) Dilip sir in Hyderabad and we practiced together as well. So it felt good and now I am enjoying,” Siraj added.

Siraj bowled well in the recently concluded practice match between Idia and Australia Prime Minister’s XI at the Manuka Oval in Canberra. The right-arm pacer will be looking to continue his fine form with the ball when India lock horns with Australia in the 2nd Test, a pink-ball encounter in Adelaide which gets underway on December 06.
