BCCI hesitant to accept PCB’s proposed ‘partnership formula’ for Champions Trophy

BCCI hesitant to accept PCB’s proposed ‘partnership formula’ for Champions Trophy

New Delhi: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is reportedly not keen on accepting the conditions proposed by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) if the Champions Trophy 2025 is to be conducted in a hybrid model. PCB has reportedly agreed to host the tournament in a hybrid model, allowing India to play their matches in the UAE after BCCI’s refusal to send the Men in Blue to Pakistan for the premier tournament.

However, the PCB has set a few conditions to accept the hybrid model. The PCB wants a similar hybrid model to be followed for all future ICC events scheduled to take place in India for at least the next three years which will ensure Pakistan don’t have to travel to India and play their matches at a neutral venue. PCB has also demanded a greater share of ICC’s annual revenue for accepting the hybrid model.

However, as per a report in Cricket Pakistan, BCCI is not keen on accepting PCB’s “Partnership or Fusion Formula” under which both teams will play at neutral venues in ICC events hosted by either nation. BCCI has reservations that if Pakistan qualify for the summit clash of an ICC tournament hosted by India, the final will have to be shifted to a neutral venue.

As per the report, the progress has stalled on the proposed proposal by PCB as their has been no word from the BCCI. BCCI cited Sunday being a holiday and the closure of ICC’s UAE office on Monday and Tuesday as the reason for the delay. This comes at a time when Jay Shah has began his tenure as the ICC chairman, taking over from Greg Barclay.

“We have presented a fair solution. If India does not accept it, they cannot expect us to send our team there in the future. If an ICC event is held in India, their team would also need to play finals or key matches in Dubai, ensuring parity,” a PCB source was quoted as saying by Cricket Pakistan.

ICC under immense pressure to find a solution

ICC is under immense pressure to end the stalemate over the Champions Trophy 2025 and find an amicable solution which would see both India and Pakistan take part in the tournament. The ICC is yet to release the official schedule of the tournament which is set to take place in February next year.

Broadcasters are scheduled to meet in Dubai regarding Champions Trophy 2025 next week and the official schedule will have to be released in time to ensure the major stakeholders don’t suffer losses. While there has been no official decision yet, it remains to be seen if all of PCB’s conditions will be accepted for the tournament to be played in a hybrid model.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is reportedly hesitant on accepting Pakistan Cricket Board’s proposed ‘partnership formula’ to break the Champions Trophy deadlock.
