Mumbai: Bollywood Superstar Shah Rukh Khan and his son, Aryan Khan’s whisky brand, D’YAVOL, has earned the prestigious title of the ‘World’s Best Scotch Whisky’ at the 2024 New York World Spirits Competition (NYWSC). Their flagship offering, ‘Inception,’ was recognised as the ‘Best Overall Scotch’ and the ‘Best Of Class’ Blended Malt Scotch Whisky, cementing its status as a world-class spirit.
The NYWSC, hosted by The Tasting Alliance, is renowned for its rigorous judging process, featuring a panel of seasoned industry experts. The competition honours exceptional craftsmanship and quality across both legacy and emerging brands. Commenting on the accolade, Shah Rukh Khan, Co-founder of D’YAVOL, expressed pride, stating, “This award for Inception underscores the idea that the finest creations are born from passion and meticulous effort.”
D’YAVOL Inception
For those unfamiliar, D’YAVOL Inception is an acclaimed blend crafted from eight rare single malts sourced from Scotland’s Speyside, Highland, Lowland, and Island regions, with some aged up to 12 years. Certain malts are matured in Tawny Port and Madeira casks, enhancing their rich complexity.
The whisky, launched in 2023, is non-chill filtered to preserve its authentic flavour and character. Its flavour profile features layers of dark chocolate, dried fruits, and oak spice, complemented by subtle hints of smoked wood, ripe plums, spiced vanilla, and a gentle smokiness.
Aryan Khan, Co-founder of D’YAVOL, shared his thoughts on the honour, saying, “Winning this award is both a validation of our vision and an inspiration to uphold our commitment to authenticity, quality, and exceptional craftsmanship.”

Whisky health benefits (in moderation)
Beyond its award-winning reputation, whisky—when enjoyed in moderation—offers several potential health benefits. This celebrated spirit contains antioxidants, including ellagic acid, which are known to combat free radicals and reduce oxidative stress in the body, contributing to overall cellular health.
Whisky is also relatively low in calories compared to many other alcoholic beverages, making it a lighter choice for those mindful of their calorie intake.
Moderate whisky consumption has been associated with a variety of positive effects on well-being. It may help alleviate stress by promoting relaxation, providing a comforting way to unwind after a long day.
Studies suggest that whisky can support cardiovascular health by increasing HDL cholesterol, often referred to as ‘good cholesterol,’ and improving blood circulation. These benefits, combined with its antioxidant properties, may contribute to a healthier heart when consumed responsibly.
Historically, whisky has also found a place in traditional remedies, particularly for its antibacterial properties. It has been used as a soothing treatment for sore throats and colds, often combined with honey and warm water to create a comforting elixir. While these uses are rooted in folk medicine, they underscore the versatile nature of this classic drink.
However, it is essential to emphasise that the key to enjoying whisky lies in responsible consumption. Overindulgence can negate any potential benefits and lead to adverse health effects. By savouring whisky in moderation, individuals can appreciate not only its rich flavours but also its possible contributions to relaxation and overall health.
