New Delhi: The Hammers had an incredibly busy summer transfer window as they brought in a whopping nine players into the club, spending over a £100 million on these acquisitions. While the incomings were immense, the club wasn’t able to offload the number of players that they wanted to and it looks like they are looking to work on that in the upcoming January transfer window.
According to reports reputed publication, The Athletic, the club have identified four players that have been deemed surplus to requirements and the club would look to get some money for them. The report also provides an update on the future of two of West Ham’s biggest stars, Lucas Paqueta and Mohammed Kudus. Both these players are integral to West Ham’s set-up and seem to consistently be linked with bigger clubs.
The Athletic reports that Paqueta is not for sale according to the club while Kudus is also looked at in the same category despite being someone in huge demand. West Ham’s summer spree hasn’t worked out the way they would’ve intended and they would now probably need to sell some players to balance the books if they are to look at reinforcements in the winter window. Here’s a look at the players that have been put for sale by the club.
4) Kurt Zouma
The first of four players listed by the club that aren’t a part of the squad but are still contracted to the club. The 30-year-old defender left the Hammers in the summer on loan for Saudi Pro League club Al-Orobah. He has made seven appearances for the club already and the club would be hoping that the Saudi Arabian side would make the deal permanent. Zouma had fallen massively out of favour at the club since the whole ‘kicking his cat’ incident and finding a permanent home away from the Hammers would be a the best move for everyone involved.
3) Maxwell Cornet
Next up is former Burnley man Maxwell Cornet who was brought into the side with much fanfare but the move didn’t work out in the manner it was expected. The now 28-year-old was shipped out on loan at Southampton in the summer but he’s failed to establish himself at the Saints as well. He’s only made two appearances in the league for them and it doesn’t look like the move will be made permanent. West Ham would be looking for suitors for the Ivorian and could cancel his loan in search for a permanent move in the right offer arises.
2) Nayef Aguerd
Arguably the best performing player on loan for the Hammers, Nayef Aguerd also doesn’t look like he has a future at the club having been put for sale by the management. The Moroccan has been playing for Real Sociedad since the summer window and has gone on to make 11 appearances for them. He has started every game since joining the club and the Basque side could look to sign him permanently if a deal can be struck between the two sides.
1) James Ward Prowse
The biggest name that the club has put up for sale is English midfielder James Ward Prowse. The 30-year-old has lost his place in the squad following the arrivals of Guido Rodriguez and Carlos Soler in the summer and he was moved on to Nottingham Forest on the deadline day of the summer transfer window. While Ward Prowse hasn’t done much for Forest, a player of his caliber won’t find it hard to find suitors for himself and is another player for whom the Hammers could terminate the loan in favour of a permanent departure.
After a summer of numerous incomings, the club is now looking to offload some players that have been deemed surplus to requirements. Dive in to find out which players don’t have a future at the club!
