New York: Bitcoin, the world’s largest cryptocurrency, has surpassed the coveted $100,000 ceiling for the first time. The crypto has been appreciating ever since US Presidential election 2024 Results were declared and Donald Trump emerged as the winner who has assured to back the sector.
The latest surge in Bitcoin price came after US President-elect Donald Trump hinted appointing Paul Atkins as the head of US Securities & Exchange Commission as Gary Gensler is all set to go. It may be noted that Atkins has been an advocate of cryptocurrency.
Trump on Wednesday said he is planning to nominate Atkins, who was the head of SEC commissioner during the presidency of George W Bush. Bitcoin has been scaling fresh peaks since Trump won the election November 5.
“We’re witnessing a paradigm shift. After four years of political purgatory, bitcoin and the entire digital asset ecosystem are on the brink of entering the financial mainstream,” Reuters quoted Mike Novogratz, founder and CEO of U.S. crypto firm Galaxy Digital as saying.
“This momentum is fueled by institutional adoption, advancements in tokenization and payments, and a clearer regulatory path,” he said.
The cryptocurrency has rallied from $69,374 on Election Day and soared as high as USD 101,512 on Wednesday. It me be noted that the crypto had plunged below $17,000 two years back after the collapse of crypto exchange FTX.
During his election campaign, Donald Trump assured to lift the restrictions on digital assets imposed by the outgoing Joe Biden administration and implement friendly regulators and turn the US into the global home of crypto.
