Hairstylist Amit Thakur reveals the truth about DIY hair masks: Do they really work?

New Delhi: Hair fall is one of the major issues faced by many people globally. It is not only a concern that can be managed easily, but as serious as getting a disease, loss of hair due to itchiness, dryness, dandruff or any other issue can lead to scalp diseases. Haircare is an important part of life as much as skincare is these days. You cannot sit while having some hair issues, as they need to be addressed properly.

If you are someone who loves to try on DIY natural products at home and get rid of the issues, here is what you exactly need to hear from the celebrity hairstylist, Amit Thakur, who has styled Nita Ambani, Priyanka Chopra and others, talk about DIY products and how they are not the complete solution to get rid of hair fall.

Amit shared a video on Instagram talking about haircare and whether egg and curd applied to hair can really provide the solution or not.  “DIY masks might give your hair a quick boost, but when it comes to lasting results, it’s all about the right ingredients,” he wrote in the caption. He went on in the video to discuss how it does not have a lasting impact and cannot be a permanent solution to hair fall.

Amit explains, “Products that use active ingredients and have good formulations. Products which are derived from natural ingredients like curd, egg, and rice can do wonders for your hair.” He went on to explain that curd is a rich source of lactic acid and it helps maintain the pH balance of the hair, making them look more nourished and conditioned. But, this does not mean that it can reverse the situation and make it look like before by repairing the hair.

Eggs have long been a popular home remedy for nourishing hair, but their actual benefits depend on several factors, such as hair type and the specific needs of your scalp. Rich source of vitamins, protein and fatty acids, if applied externally can provide nourishment and shiny hair, but won’t be a good solution to repair your hair from the inside.

Thakur emphasises the importance of understanding your hair’s specific needs—whether it’s moisture, strength, or protection from environmental damage—before opting for such treatments and also smartly using them to not harm the hair during the process.

Benefits of hair masks

They contain natural ingredients such as keratin, amino acids, and vitamins that are great for nourishment of hair, and provide a soft and shiny look on the outside.
Some hair masks contain ingredients that are good for promoting hair growth and also promise thick and long hair. It is important to understand your hair type to use it wisely.
Hair mask with collagen and keratin, helps in hair elasticity, making them strong to prevent breakage.

Not all masks are good for your hair, if not used wisely as per your hair type, they can do more harm than turning out to be a magical ingredient for you. Learn about your hair and use products that are good and will not harm the hair.
