Adelaide Oval sees massive turnout on Day 1 of India vs Australia pink-ball Test

New Delhi: A record crowd of spectators were present at the Adelaide Oval on the opening day of the second Test match between Australia and India setting a new benchmark for the number of spectators gracing the stadium. While the initial count around day time was roughly around 36000 spectators, the official attendance crossed a massive 50000 mark at day end.

As per the official data available, a total number of 50,186 people attended the first day of the second Border-Gavaskar Trophy Test match. Towards the last phase of the match, the official data of the number of spectators in attendance at the history stadium was put on the big screen. The stadium was flocked by a sea of cricket fans, with support for both the nations equally.

Australia on top on Day 1

After starring with the ball, Australia dominated with the bat as well to be in command at the end of the first day’s play at Adelaide. Mitchell Starc was the hero of the side as he ran through the Indian batters picking as many as 6 wickets in the first innings. This was his first 6-wicket haul against India in the longest format.

Apart from Starc, skipper Pat Cummins and Scott Boland picked two wickets apiece to contribute in the destruction as India were bundled out for a score of 180 runs in the first innings. Nitish Reddy top-scored for the side with 42 runs while KL Rahul scored 37 runs. The Aussies came out to bat with an equal fire with Nathan McSweeney and Marnus Labuschagne playing watchful knocks after losing Usman Khawaja early on 13 runs.

When stumps were called at Adelaide, Australia were at 86/1, still trailing India (180) by 94 runs with Nathan McSweeney (38 not out) and Marnus Labuschagne (20 not out) solid at the crease.
