Premier League: Manchester City set unwanted record in their visit to Crystal Palace

New Delhi: Manchester City’s 2024/25 season is slowly becoming one to forget for the defending Premier League champions. They started the season brilliantly with Erling Haaland scoring for fun and winning games comfortably but things started going downhill since their last-gasp draw to Arsenal. Firstly, they lost Ballon d’Or winner Rodri to a season ending injury that derailed their game. What they didn’t know at the time was that it was going to derail their season as well.

Next they lost Kevin De Bruyne to injury and their injury crisis became even worse. They would they go on a humiliating seven game winless run, which included losses to Bournemouth, Brighton, and Sporting CP in the UEFA Champions League. They were even knocked out of the EFL Cup by bogey team Tottenham, who would then inflict one of their most humiliating defeats on them, a 4-0 loss at the Etihad.

However, they managed to put an end to this run of winless games with a commanding win over Nottingham Forest in midweek and looked to continue that with their visit to Crystal Palace as well but ended up creating an unwanted record in the process as well. They went down to Daniel Munoz’s opener in the fourth minute, leaving them to chase the game once again this season.

Munoz’s opening goal in the fourth minute meant that this was the seventh time this season that the Cityzens have conceded a goal in the opening 15 minutes of the game. No Premier League team has conceded more than the seven goals they’ve conceded in that while during this season, setting an unwanted record for the defending champions. Pep Guardiola’s side are looking more vulnerable this season than they have looked ever before.

This trend was started in the second matchday of the season when they conceded in the seventh minute to Ipswich Town. They would then concede within the first 15 minutes to Brentford, Wolves, Bournemouth, Spurs, Liverpool, and to Crystal Palace today. Out of these, they only managed to turn things around Ipswich, Brentford and Wolves but did so barely so in all of these games.

It seems like Crystal Palace may get added on that list as the Eagles took the lead once again within the opening 12 minutes of the second half via a corner and the defending champions trail for the second time in the game. Oliver Glasner’s side are cruising against the Cityzens and they might pull off a major upset against the giants from Manchester.

Manchester City travelled to Selhurst Park to face Crystal Palace for the 15th Premier League game of the season and ended up setting an unwanted record in the match.  Football Sports News: Latest Cricket News, Cricket Live Score, Sports Breaking News from Sports Today
