New Delhi: India pacer Mohammed Siraj and Australia batter Travis Head are reportedly set to be penalised by the International Cricket Council (ICC) for a Code of Conduct breach after their heated verbal spat on Day 2 of the recently concluded 2nd Test between the two sides at the Adelaide Oval in Adelaide. Australia thrashed India by 10 wickets in the pink-ball Test match to level the five-match series 1-1 in the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25.
The game was marred by some controversies, including the heated face-off between Siraj and Head which garnered headlines. The incident took place during Australia’s first innings on Day 2 of the Adelaide Test when Siraj gave a fiery send-off to Head after dismissing him on 140 of 141 balls with a low full-toss.
Siraj celebrated the dismissal aggressively and gave Head an aggressive send-off followed by a death stare. The Australian batter was also seen hurling a mouthful at the Indian pacer as the duo had a heated exchange. The feud soon garnered headlines as Siraj was slammed by a section of the Aussie media and fans for ‘disrespecting’ Head.
Both players are reportedly set to face disciplinary action from ICC over their heated verbal spat on the field. As per a report in The Daily Telegraph, ICC is set to charge Siraj and Head for their argument in the 2nd Test.
The players are expected to face a disciplinary hearing. However, much to the relief of both teams, none of the players will be handed suspensions as audible infractions carry a lower punishment in the ICC’s Code of Conduct.
Head, Siraj sort out differences
Speaking after Australia’s 10-wicket win in the second Test in Adelaide, local hero Head revealed that there was no bad blood between him and Siraj and that the duo have sorted their differences. Head said he was ‘sweet with it’ as he revealed the details of his conversation with Siraj on Day 3. The Australian batter claimed Siraj asked him why he had abused him during their spat.
“Sweet with it. He came out and just said (it was) a little bit of misunderstanding … I think we’ll move on. We’ve had a great week, so let’s not let it ruin it,” Head said about the incident on ABC Sport.
“It was fine. He said, ‘Why’d you swear?’ I sort of said, ‘Look, I didn’t at first … (but) I definitely swore at you the second time round’,” he added.
Earlier, Head had claimed he only told Siraj “well bowled” after getting cleaned up by him on 140. However, the Indian pacer narrated a different tale as he shared his side of the story. Siraj hit back at Head for ‘lying’ and claimed he was abused by the Australian batter which prompted a fiery reaction from him during their spat.
ICC is reportedly set to charge both Mohammed Siraj and Travis Head for breaching its Code of Conduct after their verbal spat in the 2nd Test between India and Australia in Adelaide. Cricket Sports News: Latest Cricket News, Cricket Live Score, Sports Breaking News from Sports Today
