New Delhi: Real Madrid stated on Thursday that Kylian Mbappe sustained a thigh injury during this week’s Champions League encounter against Atalanta, but the Spanish team did not provide an explanation for his absence. Mbappe has been diagnosed with a thigh injury in his left leg after tests conducted on him today by the Real Madrid medical staff.
The holders’ struggling Champions League campaign was resurrected on Tuesday as the French forward opened the scoring in the tenth minute of a 3-2 victory in Bergamo. However, after 36 minutes, the 25-year-old pulled up due to a muscle ache, and Rodrygo took his place.
“Mbappe has some discomfort in his hamstrings. It doesn’t seem serious but we’ll see tomorrow,” said Carlo Ancelotti after Tuesday’s match.
“He couldn’t sprint, it hurt him a bit and we thought it best to replace him.”
It certainly didn’t look like a serious injury after Mbappe limped his way off the pitch after producing a more than decent performance against a very confident and brave Atalanta side.

Mbappe had three great scoring opportunities, including one in the second minute, before pulling up, making it one of his best performances in the Madrid uniform since signing from Paris Saint-Germain last summer.
He scored his 12th goal since joining Real Madrid and his 50th goal overall in the Champions League. On Saturday, Real Madrid will take on Rayo Vallecano in La Liga. Four days later, they play Sevilla at home in another La Liga match, and on December 18, they play in the FIFA Intercontinental Cup final.
There are no such reports that suggest that the injury will take the French superstar out for a long time, but it looks likely that Ancelotti would prefer not to play Mbappe in their next outing against Rayo Vallecano.
