Kane Williamson kicks ball onto stumps in bizarre dismissal against England – WATCH

New Delhi: Senior New Zealand batter Kane Williamson suffered a bizarre dismissal during his side’s first innings on Day 1 of the 3rd Test against England at the Seddon Park in Hamilton on Saturday. Williamson mistakenly ended up kicking the ball onto his stumps while trying to avoid getting hit wicket as he ended up missing out on awell-deserved half-century closely.

The incident happened during the 59th over of New Zealand’s innings when Williamson was facing England pacer Matthew Potts. Potts bowled a delivery on the 4th stump line which breached Williamson’s forward defence and sneaked past him. The New Zealand batter turned swiftly trying to stop the ball from hitting the stumps with his foot.

However, Williamson ended up kicking the ball into the stumps in the process and got dismissed. The senior Kiwis batter was sent packing after scoring 44 off 87 balls with the help of 9 fours. Williamson’s unlucky dismissal caught the attention of fans online as a clip of the incident went viral on social media.

It was an unfortunate dismissal for Williamson, who was looking in decent touch and was aiming to notch up a big knock for the Black Caps. The senior batter’s dismissal came at a crucial juncture and resulted in a mini collapse for the hosts before Mitchell Santner’s unbeaten half-century helped them cross the 300-run mark on Day 1.

New Zealand end Day 1 on 315/9

New Zealand rode on half-centuries from skipper Tom Latham and Santner and vital knocks from Williamson and Will Young to post 315/9 on the board in their first innings of the third Test against England in Hamilton. Openers Latham and Young combined to give the Kiwis a solid start at the top with a 105-run stand for the 1st wicket.

Latham top-scored with 63 while Young scored 43. Williamson then contributed with a vital 44. Santner slammed an unbeaten 50 off 54 balls and combined with Tim Southee (23) to add an important stand of 31 runs for the 9th wicket, taking New Zealand to 315/9 at stumps on Day 1. The left-hander will be hoping to add some vital runs to his team’s total on Day 2 before they can invite England to bat in their first innings.
