Australia faced a race against time to bundle out India but Bumrah and Akash Deep stood tall to take the visitors past the 246-run mark and safeguard them from following on in the Test match.
It was an exceptional effort from the two tail-enders, who showcased remarkable composure under pressure and didn’t put a foot wrong en route to their unbeaten 39-run stand to help India finish with 252/9 on board at stumps on Day 4. KL Rahul and Ravindra Jadeja set the tone for India on Day 4 with half-centuries apiece and a crucial partnership of 67 runs for the sixth wicket. Jadeja then joined hands with Nitish Reddy for another important stand for the seventh wicket before Bumrah and Akash Deep took control of the proceedings and made the Aussie bowlers toil hard for their wickets.
Rahul played a gritty knock of 84 runs while Jadeja slammed a splendid 77 to keep India in the hunt. Akash Deep played a couple of lusty blows to finish with an unbeaten 27 while Bumrah remained not out on 10 to propel India past the 250-run mark.
