FIFA The Best Award: All you need to know about the ceremony in Doha, Qatar

New Delhi: FIFA have announced that ‘The Best’ Football Awards 2024, celebrating year’s finest players in the men’s and women’s football at the club and international levels will declared on Tuesday during a special event set to be broadcast from Doha, Qatar. Ballon d’Or winner Rodri is among those nominated in the men’s category and will contest for the award yet again against Vinicius Jr.

Earlier, the Brazilian has boycotted the ceremony after being overlooked for the Rodri. Vinicius was one important player in the Real Madrid side who had helped his side lift the Spanish Super Cup, La Liga and the UEFA Champions League and was thought to be taking the award home. However, Vinicius chose not to attend the award function after it was revealed that none of the Real Madrid players would be winning the Ballon d’Or.

For the women’s category, Aitana Bonmati, the Ballon d’Or Feminin winner, is the leading contender for the award, having led her club, FC Barcelona Femeni, to a remarkable quadruple and helped Spain win the Nations League. Two-time winner Alexia Puttellas is absent from the list of nominees.

This year, the FIFA Puskas Award will recognise the best goal in men’s football, while the newly introduced FIFA Marta Award will honour the best goal scored in women’s football across the world and is named after Brazil’s footballer Marta da Silva.
