New Delhi: The Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) has allowed employers to upload wage details etc. in regards to over 3.1 lakh pending applications for Pension on Higher Wages till January 31, 2025.
The Union Ministry of Labour & Employment informed that EPFO started an online facility for submitting applications for validation of options/joint options for pension on higher wages on February 26, 2023, which was to remain available only till May 3, 2023. However, the deadline was extended several times considering the representations of the employees to provide time to eligible pensioners/members for filing applications.
The ministry said in spite of giving several extensions, over 3.1 lakh applications for validation of options / joint options remain pending with employers. With EPFO receiving several representations from Employers & Employers’ Associations requesting to extend further time period for uploading wage details of applicant pensioners/members, it has been decided to provide “a final opportunity is being given to the employers till 31.01.2025 to ensure that employers process and upload these pending Applications for Validation of Option / Joint Options”.
The employers have been asked to submit replies/update the information by January 15, 2025 in over 4.66 lakh cases where EPFO has sought additional information/ clarification in respect of applications that have been received and examined by EPFO, the Ministry of Labour & Employment stated.
ESIC Enrollment Growth and Social Security Expansion
The Employees’ State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) registered a 3 per cent increase in new subscribers enrolments at 17.80 lakh in October 2024 compared year ago. The government informed that 21,588 new establishments have been brought under the ESI Scheme in October 2024 thus ensuring social security to more workers.

“Through the data, it is noticeable that out of the total 17.80 lakh employees added during the month, 8.50 lakh employees amounting to around 47.75% of the total registrations belong to the age group of upto 25 years,” the statement read. Also 42 transgender employees were also enrolled under the ESI Scheme in October 2024.
The EPFO has extended the deadline for employers to upload wage details for over 3.1 lakh pending pension applications until January 31, 2025. Additionally, the ESIC reported a 3% increase in new subscribers in October 2024, with a significant portion belonging to the under-25 age group.
