Out or not out? Yashasvi Jaiswal’s dismissal sparks controversy in 4th Test – WATCH

New Delhi: India opener Yashasvi Jaiswal’s dismissal sparked a huge controversy during the visitors’ second innings on Day 5 as Australia cruised to a thumping 184-run victory in the 4th Test between the two sides at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) in Melbourne on Monday. Jaiswal was controversially dismissed caught behind on 84, ending India’s hopes of saving the 4th Test.

Jaiswal was given out despite there being no spike on the snickometer as the third umpire ruled that there was a definite edge by considering the deflection on the ball. The dismissal took place in the 71st over when Jaiswal was batting on 84 and facing Aussie skipper Pat Cummins in the middle. Cummins bowled a short ball at a good height and Jaiswal failed to connect his pull shot as the ball flew straight to wicket-keeper Alex Carey.

The on-field umpire Joel Wilson was not convinced after Australia’s appeal and ruled the Indian opener not out. However, Australia decided to review the decision as Cummins looked convinced there was an edge. The ball appeared to have touched Jaiswal’s gloves in the replays but there was no spike on the snickometer when the third umpire checked it for confirmation.

However, despite getting no confirmation snickometer, the third umpire Sharfuddoula Saikat decided to adjudge Jaiswal out based on the visual evidence of the ball’s deflection after passing through his gloves. “I can see the ball has made contact with the gloves. Joel, you need to change your decision,” the 3rd umpire was heard telling the on-field umpire before ‘Out’ was displayed on the big screen.

The dismissal left Indian fans infuriated, sparking a controversy. Jaiswal too was seemingly unhappy with the decision and was seen arguing with the on-field umpire before heading towards the dressing room.
