Preview and predicted lineups of Premier League ‘Match Day 19’ Monday fixtures

New Delhi: Premier League has reached halfway in the season with gameweek 19 beginning with Manchester City winning a win to their fan’s delight. Liverpool have continued to prevail eight points clear at the top of the points table. With five back-to-back wins, Nottingham Forest are at the moment in the second place of the Premier League table.

The final four games of the week will be played over the next two days, every team will be hoping to improve their standings in the final fixture of the year. Arsenal are just one point behind Nottingham Forest and will be keen to keep their stake at the title still high. Chelsea are also strong contenders for the title sitting right behind Arsenal.

Ipswich Town are not in the best of forms as they come to host Chelsea at Portman Road, having lost five of their last six games, and will start at the relegation zone next year irrespective of the result. In their 1-0 loss to Arsenal, they managed just three shots in the 90 minutes, none of which were on target. One of the primary reasons for the Tractor boy’s dismal show is their failure to win a single game in the nine home fixtures. They have collected only 12 points in 18 games, winning twice this season.

Chelsea had managed to win games across competition since coming back from November’s international break but have been winless in their last two games. Enzo Maresca’s side played a goalless draw against Everton before a 95th 2-1 loss to Fulham at home on Boxing Day. Currently, they are 10 points behind table leaders Liverpool sitting in fourth place, with 10 wins and playing five draws.

Predicted Lineup

Ipswich Town: Muric; O’Shea, Greaves, Burgess, Davis; Morsy, Cajuste; Chaplin, Hutchinson, Szmodics; Delap

Chelsea possible: Sanchez; Gusto, Tosin, Colwill, Cucurella; Enzo, Caicedo; Madueke, Palmer, Joao Felix; Nkunku

Early Predictions: Ipswich Town 1-2 Chelsea

Aston Villa will come to the 19th matchday of the Premier League on the back of a poor display against Newcastle, losing 3-0 in the midweek clash. Unai Emery’s side lost their fifth away loss in a row, with their only consolation for the Champions League spot being Villan’s home, with just one loss in the last 14 games and winning all last three games at Villan Park. They are of course looking to close the gap at the top as they compete for the title.

Brighton are at the tenth place and though their season has been decent overall, they have been winless in their last six games, losing twice. It is one of their poorest form in the last three years and doesn’t reflect the start they had to the season. At Villa Park, they suffered one of their biggest losses ever as Aston Villa thrashed them 6-1. They are two points behind Villa and with just four wins in the last 22 Premier League games, it is the Seagulls who are more likely to struggle.

Predicted Lineup

Aston Villa: Martinez; Konsa, Diego Carlos, Pau Torres, Digne; McGinn, Kamara, Onana, Tielemans, Rogers; Watkins

Brighton & Hove Albion: Verbruggen; Veltman, Van Hecke, Dunk, Estupinan; O’Riley, Baleba; Minteh, Rutter, Mitoma; Joao Pedro

Early Predictions: Aston Villa 2-1 Brighton and Hove Albion

Manchester United though started decent under Ruben Amorim, have suffered two back-to-back losses since winning a final minute at the Manchester derby. After their loss to Wolverhampton Wanderers on Boxing Day, the talks about a possible relegation for Manchester United have only increased, sitting just 8 points away from the relegation zone. From 18 games, they have picked up just 22 points and for Amorim to retain his place with the club, needs to make some dramatic improvements in the results.

After last night’s game, Newcastle are currently sitting at seventh, just six points away from the final-four finish. Newcastle have been victorious in their last four games across the competition. In the Premier League, in their last three games against Leicester City, Ipswich Town and Aston Villa, they have scored 11 times and conceded not once. At Old Trafford, Man United have a big task though at the same venue last year the visitors lost 3-2.

Predicted Lineup

Manchester United: Onana; Yoro, Maguire, Martinez; Mazraoui, Casemiro, Mainoo, Dalot; Amad, Hojlund, Garnacho

Newcastle United: Dubravka; Livramento, Schar, Burn, Hall; Guimaraes, Tonali, Joelinton; J Murphy, Isak, Gordon

Early Predictions: Manchester United 2-2 Newcastle United

Brentford vs Arsenal

— Brentford FC (@BrentfordFC) December 30, 2024

For Brentford and Arsenal, the New Year will start at the Gtech Stadium. Coming on the back of a goalless draw against Brighton, Brentford have won just once in their last five games as they stand on 12th at the table. At Amex Stadium they were able to stop a three-game losing streak at the venue. However, they are one of the two teams who are winless in away games this season. At Gtech, they have taken home 22 points of the 24 they have secured so far.

For Arsenal, despite not having Bukayo Saka in the team, they managed to win against Ipswich Town, making their two back-to-back wins. Though a 1-0 win may not have been the one they would be boastful about, it is still a win that sees them start the game in third place. Despite this, they have a nine-point gap between them and the table toppers Liverpool. Playing their ninth consecutive game in London, Arsenal will be feeling confident having not lost any of the 10 Premier League games they played in the English capital city.

Predicted Lineup

Brentford: Valdimarsson; Roerslev, Collins, Kim, Lewis-Potter; Janelt, Norgaard; Mbeumo, Damsgaard, Schade; Wissa

Arsenal: Raya; Timber, Saliba, Gabriel, Lewis-Skelly; Odegaard, Partey, Rice; Martinelli, Havertz, Trossard

Early Predictions: Brentford 1-3 Arsenal
