New Delhi: Former Indian cricketer Ravichandran Ashwin has reacted on the recent ‘Mankad’ act attempted in the ongoing Big Bash League 2024-25 season. In the recent match between Adelaide Strikers and Perth Scorchers on Tuesday at the Adelaide Oval, Strikers pace bowler Jamie Overton almost ran out Scorchers batter Finn Allen at the non-striker’s end.
During the eighth over of the Perth Scorchers innings, Overton was running up to bowl his fifth delivery to Cooper Connolly. Just before releasing the ball, the England speedster halted and dislodged the bails off the stumps when he saw Finn Allen was just ahead of the crease.
Interestingly, Overton didn’t appeal for the wicket and left Allen with a warning as the match resumed. The organisers of the Big Bash League didn’t failed to capture the moment and uploaded on their social media platform. Even Ashwin, who recently announced retirement from international cricket, didn’t fail to notice the incident.
The Chennai-born cricketer appreciated his new Indian Premier League (IPL) teammate for his effort to execute a run-out at the non-striker’s end. In his own witty style, the 38-year-old wrote: ‘Our vibe shall attract the tribe Jamie’.

Ashwin is famously known for dismissing England batter Jos Buttler during the 2019 IPL season in the match between Kings XI Punjab (now Punjab Kings) and Rajasthan Royals in Jaipur. Incidentally, Ashwin will be teammate to Overton when the two will join the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) camp in IPL 2025. Ashwin was sold to the five-time IPL champions for INR 9.75 crore and Overton was bought for INR 1.50 crore.
In the BBL, Perth Scorchers eventually won by seven wickets after Allen went on to score a quickfire 50 from 23 balls. Connolly (48*) and Ashton Turner (35*) took the Scorchers past the finish line in the 146-run chase. Overton was a bit expensive, conceding 27 runs from two overs at an economy of 13.50.
