Tottenham goalkeeper to debut against Newcastle after nine years at the club

New Delhi: Tottenham are facing a big crisis that has seen a number of starters miss out on league games and latest to that list is their second choice goalkeeper Fraser Forster. Tottenham’s backup goalie, is out due to a stomach bug, which puts pressure on manager Ange Postecoglou. Guglielmo Vicario, the first choice, is still sidelined due to a chronic ankle problem. Despite joining Spurs nine years ago, Austin has never played senior football in a competitive match.

First-choice defenders Destiny Udogie, Micky van de Ven, and Cristian Romero are among the Tottenham players out due to injury and suspension. After losing their last three games, Postecoglou’s team is currently in 11th place and experiencing their worst league run since 2008. Alexander Isak, is in scorching form as the team has won their previous four top-flight games by an aggregate score of 13-0. Austin played on loan for Orlando City of Major League Soccer in 2021 and Viborg FF of Denmark in 2019.

Who is Tottenham’s new keeper, Brandon Austin?

This is crazy… Tottenham goalkeeper Brandon Austin will make his first team debut against Newcastle today, the mad part is… he’s been at the club for 9 years and also hasn’t played in a competitive professional game since 2021. 🤯🧤

It was anticipated that the 25-year-old goalie, who inked a new, long-term contract with Tottenham in May 2024, would take Vicario’s place as the team’s backup. Austin has made appearances for Spurs’ youth side with 78 appearances. He is well known for his abilities with the ball at his feet, making him a typical example of modern-day goalkeeper. Despite Forster’s illness, Tottenham has given up 15 goals in their last seven games, raising concerns about whether he is a good fit for the team’s approach.

Forster was responsible for two goals in the 4-3 League Cup victory over Manchester United, but he still retains the support of his management. It will be interesting to see if Ange would be interested in giving Austin further opportunities if he produced a good performance against a very confident and free scoring Newcastle side. However, it has just been confirmed that Tottenham have already signed Antonin Kinsky as a back-up goalkeeper from Slavia Prague.

So, the question that arises would be- Is this a good news for the long-serving keeper, Brandon Austin? There is no reason for Ange Postecoglou to sideline him, if he delivers the goods tonight against Newcastle that’s for sure.

After nine years with the club, Tottenham goalkeeper, Brandon Austin is set to make his debut against Newcastle in an upcoming Premier League match.  Football Sports News: Latest Cricket News, Cricket Live Score, Sports Breaking News from Sports Today
