New Delhi: Ryan Rickelton became the first Proteas opener to score 250+ runs at home in the second Test match against Pakistan at Newlands in Cape Town on Saturday, January 4. The 28-year-old batted over for two days after South Africa opted to bat first.
He finished the opening day of the Cape Town Test with his second hundred in the longest format and scored his double-century in the second session on Day 2. He completed his maiden double hundred off 266 balls and reached to his 250 off 336 deliveries.
His sensational knock helped South Africa to score 615 runs in the first innings. Captain Temba Bavuma scored 106 runs off 179 balls and Kyle Verreyne also smashed 100 runs off 147 balls.
Rickelton is only the eighth South African batter to cross the 250-run mark in a Test innings. Hashim Amla is the only South African batter with a triple-century in Test cricket. He scored an unbeaten 311 against England at the Oval in 2012.
