New Delhi: Indian chess legend Viswanathan Anand, world champion D Gukesh, R Praggnanandhaa and Vidit Gujrathi were seen shaking a leg during Pongal celebrations on Sunday, January 12. Anand chose to start the Pongal celebrations early and hosted a get-together at his place with India’s chess players. He and all the chess players were seen dancing together.
A video from their festive gathering went viral on social media. They all were dressed in traditional attire showing their dance moves. The players were a little hesitant initially but they soon followed the lead of their mentor Anand and danced.

Gukesh to receive Khel Ratna award
D Gukesh is all set to receive the Khel Ratna award after winning the World Chess Championship. As per a report from Chess. com, he has received a whopping Rs 13.6 crore after winning the title. Tamil Nadu government also announced the Rs 5 crore prize money for Gukesh after winning the World Chess Championship.
With Pongal marking the Tamil New Year, the celebrations at Anand’s residence were a brilliant tribute to this new era of Indian chess. Anand has played a crucial role in shaping the future of Indian chess through WestBridge Anand Chess Academy (WACA), where Gukesh and Praggnanandhaa also groomed under his guidance.
