New Delhi: Premier League matchday 21 brings the top flight of English back for action after the weekend saw FA Cup games underway where Premier League sides took on lower league clubs or teams without any club. The midweek games spread across three days amidst an active winter transfer period.

Liverpool continues to be at the top of the table, though a draw in matchweek before has left them just six points clear at the top ahead of Arsenal and Nottingham Forest, who are level on points, but the Gunners are ahead with a Goal difference. Chelsea comes to the matchday at fourth after not being able to win once in their last four games, while Newcastle are placed fifth after a five-game winning streak.

Chelsea vs Bournemouth (1:00 AM IST)

Chelsea come to the gameweek at the back of a 5-0 win against Morecambe in the FA Cup third round. Though the win was almost perfect, Enzo Maresca’s team has faced some disappointment, taking home just two points from their last four Premier League games. Their last game in the Premier League saw them play a 1-1 draw against their London rivals, Crystal Palace, despite an early lead in the game. They are now leading with just one point in the Champions League zone.

Bournemouth, too, scored five times in their FA Cup tie but had to come from behind against a lower-based team for a 5-1 win. Their last Premier League fixture saw them win 1-0 against Everton towards the closing minutes of the game. Bournemouth’s last defeat came against Brighton and Hove Albion in late November, and their nine-game undefeated streak is third to Liveerpool’s 15 and Arsenal’s 10th. Part of their success is also down to their away game performance.

Predicted XI

Chelsea: Sanchez; Gusto, Acheampong, Colwill, Cucurella; Fernandez, Caicedo; Sancho, Palmer, Neto; Jackson

Bournemouth: Travers; Hill, Zabarnyi, Huijsen, Kerkez; Christie, Cook; Brooks, Kluivert, Ouattara; Semenyo

Chelsea 2-1 Bournemouth

West Ham vs Fulham (1:00 AM IST)

West Ham would be disappointed with their performance for their FA Cup loss after losing 2-1 to Aston Villa despite taking the lead in the ninth minute itself. The Villans scored their two goals in a span of five minutes in the second minute. Crashing out of the FA Cup tie means they now have just the Premier League to focus on where they are in the 14th place, taking 23 points so far. Currently, they are just seven points from the relegation zone, losing 4-1 to Manchester City in the last game. Their form is concerning and needs to address issues in the final third during the transfer window of January,

Fulham are unbeaten in their last eight Premier League games and are also unbeaten in their last 10 Premier League derbies. Their amazing runs saw them pull off draws against both Liverpool and Arsenal, and based on this performance, they are currently placed ninth in the tournament. Their last defeat was at home against Wolverhampton Wanderers. Having defeated Watford in the FA Cup they will be in high confidence and will hope to diminish the six-point gap from the Champions League place finish by as much as possible.

Predicted XI

West Ham United: Fabianski; Coufal, Mavropanos, Kilman, Wan-Bissaka; Alvarez, Soler; Kudus, Soucek, Paqueta; Ings

Fulham: Leno; Diop, Andersen, Bassey; Castagne, Lukic, Cairney, Robinson; Wilson, Jimenez, Iwobi

West Ham 0-2 Fulham

Brentford vs Manchester City (1:00 AM IST)

Brentford came into the game winning only once in their seven games across the competition, with the 5-0 victory coming against Southampton. Their recent 1-0 loss came against second-flight team Plymouth Argyle in the FA Cup. Brentford’s recent losses mean they are now placed 11th in the table. The Bees haven’t played well at home during the winter period, as their dominance at Gtech Community have taken a toll during their last few outings.

After a poor phase, Manchester City are now turning their fortunes with their latest outings including a 2-0 win against Leicester City, a 4-1 win over West Ham in the Premier League and an 8-0 win against Salford City in the FA Cup third round.  The defending Champions even in their worst were never in scarcity of goal scoring. Their latest performance in the top flight tough leaves them just two points away from the Champions League spot as they start their matchday in sixth place.

Predicted XI

Brentford: Flekken; Roerslev, Van den Berg, Collins, Lewis-Potter; Norgaard, Janelt, Damsgaard; Mbeumo, Wissa, Schade

Manchester City: Ortega; Lewis, Akanji, Ake, Gvardiol; Kovacic; Foden, Silva, De Bruyne, Savinho; Haaland

Brentford 0-3 Manchester City

Nottingham Forest vs Liverpool (1:30 AM IST)

It is the clash of two top teams of the season in the City Grounds Stadium as Nottingham Forest have been in some different form with a seven-game winning streak across the competition and have kept five clean sheets in successive games with the latest victims being Lutton Town in the FA Cup who were beaten 2-0. Their 3-0 win means the Tricky Trees have achieved their best results in their entire time of Premier League appearance.

Liverpool came to the top flight after a shocking 2-2 draw against Manchester United last to last week. After a 1-0 loss at the hands of Tottenham Hotspur in the first leg of the EFL Cup semi-final, the Reds came back with a 4-0 win against Accrington Stanley in the FA Cup for a knockout game redemption almost. They are still leading the Premier League table with a six-point gap at the top with a game still in hand and Liverpool will try to increase the gap with the midweek games.

Predicted XI

Nottingham Forest: Sels; Aina, Milenkovic, Murillo, Williams; Anderson, Dominguez; Elanga, Gibbs-White, Hudson-Odoi; Wood

Liverpool: Alisson; Alexander-Arnold, Konate, Van Dijk, Robertson; Mac Allister, Gravenberch; Salah, Jones, Gakpo; Diaz
