New Delhi: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Saturday announced a 15-member squad for the upcoming three-match ODI series against England. Fast bowler Harshit Rana has been included for a potential debut with senior pacer Jasprit Bumrah being ruled out for the first couple of games.
The squad was announced on the sidelines of the Champions Trophy squad announcement by BCCI chief selector Ajit Agarkar and skipper Rohit Sharma present in a press conference in Mumbai. This will be the first ODI match that the Indian team will play after a span of four months.
The only change between the Champions Trophy squad and England ODI series for India was the bowling change with Bumrah not available to play in the home bilateral series after sustaining back spasm during the final Test against Australia in Sydney.
Harshit Rana was named as a backup option to Bumrah for the England ODIs. The Delhi pacer recently made his Test debut in Australia, playing in Perth and Adelaide.
Return of Key Players and Team Composition
Senior India seamer Mohammed Shami also returns to the squad after being away from international cricket for more than a year. He was also included in India’s five-match T20I series against England as well.
Left-arm quick Arshdeep Singh will be the second frontline seamer to back Shami in the absence of Bumrah. Mohammed Siraj hasn’t found his place in neither Champions Trophy or England squad.
Rohit Sharma will lead the team for the three-match series with top order batter Shubman Gill being his deputy. Left-handed batter Yashasvi Jaiswal will be in contention to open the innings. Rishabh Pant is the first-choice wicketkeeper in the team with KL Rahul being the backup option.
Ravindra Jadeja, Hardik Pandya, Axar Patel, and Washington Sundar are the four all-rounders in the side. Virat Kohli will be the key player in the middle order with the likes of Shreyas Iyer and KL Rahul along with him for the role.
India announced its 15-member ODI squad for the upcoming three-match series against England. Notable inclusions are debutant Harshit Rana, replacing the injured Jasprit Bumrah for the first two matches, and the return of Mohammed Shami. Rohit Sharma will captain the side, with Shubman Gill as his deputy. Cricket Sports News: Latest Cricket News, Cricket Live Score, Sports Breaking News from Sports Today
