New Delhi: Twenty-year-old rising tennis star Alex Michelsen had a remarkable day on Saturday at the ongoing Australian Open 2025. Michelsen, who has taken the first Grand Slam of the season by storm, stunned number 19 seed Karen Khachanov 6-3, 7-6, 6-2, earning a fourth round position at the Grand Slam event in Melbourne Park.
The win marked a significant milestone for the young player from California as his journey at the Slam has been wonderful till now. This win became remarkable as it was the tennis player’s second victory in less than a week over a top-20 opponent. Earlier in the opening round, the talented young player stunned number 11 seed Stefanos Tsitsipas in a four-set thriller.

After getting the better off Tsitsipas in the Australian Open opening game, the American easily defeated James Mccabe, showing his excellence with a brilliant stroke play on the tennis court. While it was not expected that he will be able to continue his winning run in the third round as a win over Tsitsipas in the first round exhausted him a lot but he came back even stronger to march into Round four.
Michelsen’s next match will see him clash against number 8 seed Alex de Minaur from Australia, which would be the highest seeded player he will have to face. As the young player goes ahead, the game is going to be tougher for him as he will have to face the best in the lot to earn a victory.
The first and third round victories have been special for the player as he managed to defeat both the players who held a tremendous record at the Australian Open. Michelsen The 42nd-ranked Michelsen is the second-youngest American man to reach this stage of the Australian Open since Andy Roddick achieved the feat in 2003.
