New Delhi: Arshdeep Singh becomes the most successful wicket-taker for India in T20Is. The left-arm pacer achieved the feat in the first T20I between India and England at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata on January 22, Wednesday.
In India’s last T20I series against South Africa Arshdeep dethroned Bhuvneshwar Kumar to become the most successful pacer for India in T20Is and now he dethroned Yuzvendra Chahal to become the most successful wicket-taker in T20Is for India.
The left-arm pacer scalps 97 wickets in 61 matches in span of just three years as Arshdeep made his T20I debut in 2022 and after just three years he became India’s most successful bowler in T20Is. He opened the bowling for India and got the hosts off to a flier by dismissing Phil Salt on the third ball of England’s innings. The pacer bowled the first ball that shaped backs in and hit the thigh pad of Salt.
In the next ball, Arshdeep moved the ball outside off stump and Salt hit the ball towards backward point. Arshdeep surprised Salt with a short-length ball and the English batter was trapped in the awkward position and departed without troubling the scorers. With this wicket, Arshdeep became the joint-highest wicket-taker for India in T20Is.
He gave only three runs in the first over and in his following over Arshdeep trapped another English opener, Ben Duckett. Duckett was dismissed for just four runs and England’s both openers were back in the hut.
Arshdeep bowled three overs in his first spell and finished his excellent spell by giving just 10 runs and dismissing two English batters. England’s skipper Jos Buttler counter-attacked India’s fiery bowling attack and helped his side with 46 runs in the first powerplay despite losing two batters early in the innings.
