New Delhi: Though Varun Chakaravarthy’s 5/24 couldn’t spur India to a win in the third T20I against England, the leg-spinner isn’t bogged down and revealed plans of working on adding a new delivery to his repertoire.
He was named the man of the match despite India going down by 26 runs in Rajkot that kept the five-game series alive with England trailing 1-2.
Chakravarthy has been in impressive form in the first three matches of the series, helping India win in Kolkata and Chennai but lost in Rajkot.
After being named the player of the match, Chakravarthy said he is satisfied with him current form and is working on developing the ‘flipper’.
“Sad that we didn’t make it in this match but that’s the nature of the game, got to move on. Of course, when you’re playing for the country, got to take up some accountability, able to do it to a certain extent. Hope to do it well,” he said.
“I’ve been working on a flipper, coming out well. Maybe on this stage, the best I’ve bowled, but I can definitely get better.
“I need to keep working on it, keep pushing it. I need to get nine on ten consistency. That work is always there. So, right now my focus is on consistency and line and length,”
‘No dew, pitch turned slow’
Chakravarthy said the Rajkot track became slower as the match progressed, making India’s 172-run chase difficult after England made 171/9 even after slumping to 127/8.
India were unable to tackle the spin of leg-spinner Adil Rashid in the middle overs.
“I thought the dew might set in and the ball will start skidding on. But the pitch became very slow and their cutters and their leggies started working more. While if you see in the first innings it was not that slow. So, that definitely played in their favour.
“And obviously, Adil Rashid is a legend and he knows how to bowl. He has that control over his speed,” Chakravarthy said after India’s loss on Tuesday.
