New Delhi: India’s wicketkeeper-batter Sanju Samson has suffered a fracture on his index finger during the fifth T20I against England and is likely to be sidelines for over a month.
Samson was hit on the hand by a rising delivery from Jofra Archer as he opened the innings after India were invited to bat at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Sunday.
Samson was dismissed after a seven-ball 16-run knock, pulling Mark Wood into the hands of Archer in India’s 150-run win over that gave them a 4-1 series victory.
“Samson has fractured his right index finger. It will take him five to six weeks before he can resume proper nets. So there is no chance of him playing the Ranji Trophy quarter-final for Kerala (vs J&K) in Pune from February 8-12,” a BCCI source informed PTI.
“In all likelihood, his comeback will happen in the IPL for Rajasthan Royals.”
The injury sidelines Samson from Kerala’s upcoming Ranji Trophy quarterfinal clash. The right hand batter has gone back to his hometown Thiruvananthapuram would undergo rehabilitation at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru.
He would need the green light from the NCA to return to action in time for the Indian Premier League for Rajasthan Royals in March, having managed 51 runs in five games in the five-match series against England.
Samson wasnt included in India’s 15-member squad for the Champions Trophy by the BCCI selectors.
