New Delhi: Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma on Wednesday announced a special gift for bronze medal winner canoer Pynshngain Kurbah as a recognition of her achievement at the 38th National Games in Uttarakhand.

CM Sangma announced a state government job for the National Games bronze medallist who claimed the podium spot in canoeing.

“I have one good news for you. I want to tell you that when you come back here, we will be working towards getting a government job for you so that you have security in the future because you have done us proud,” the CM said in a video call from Shillong to Kurbah.

The Meghalaya CM praised Kurbah for her achievement and hailed her as an inspiration for the youngsters.

The move comes after the state government’s decision to pass a state sports policy rewarding National Games, Asian Games and Olympic medallists with government jobs.

Meanwhile, Meghalaya’s Indra Sharma, 15, won a silver in the men’s canoe slalom, increasing the state’s medal tally to two in the watersport.

As many as 25 sportspersons from Meghalaya are participating in the National Games.

Meanwhile, Karnataka, on Day 7, became only the second state to breach 50-medal mark with six gold wins on medal-laden day. Karnataka are reigning at the top with 28 gold medals while Maharashra, despite having a bigger medal total (76), are third with 16 gold medals. With 21 gold medals, Services Sports Control Board are second while Tamil Nadu and Manipur round of the top five with 11 gold each.
