New Delhi: UFC Middleweight Champion Dricus Du Plessis successfully defended his title against Sean Strickland at the Qudos Bank Arena in Sydney on February 9, Sunday. Du Plessis dominated the fight as he broke Strickland’s nose in the third round of the fight.
Strickland started the bout with flicking jabs and outs and set the tone of the fight. The South African used his kicks early on and attacked Strickland’s body to keep the distance from him.
Du Plessis’ Kicks were the highlight of the first round. In the second round, the pace of the fight increased as Strickland hit some jabs to Du Plessis and the champion was also replied the attack with some hooks.
The champion was using a mixture of low-leg kicks and high-leg kicks against Strickland but the American countered the champion with a big right hand.
Du Plessis was mixing his punches nicely and constantly attacking Strickland’s face. American didn’t have answers to the champion attack and after the first competitive round, Du Plessis dominated every round.
The champion was ducking the punches of the challenger and threw odd punches from odd angles. Du Plessis caught Strickland with his right punch and broke his nose. The fight got bloodiest after the broken nose as Strickland was bleeding blood all over his face.
Two out of three judges scored the fight 50-45, which means all rounds were won by the champion and it showed the dominance of Du Plessis in the middleweight division.

After winning the fight against Strickland, Du Plessis declared himself as a top-3 pound-for-pound fighter and he is now eyeing to become no.1 in the pound-for-pound rankings.
The Middleweight champion called out Light Heavyweight champion Alex Pereira but Dana White announced Khamzat Chimaev would be the next opponent for Du Plessis.
