Cristiano Ronaldo has agreed to contract extension with Al Nassr: Reports

New Delhi: Portuguese forward Cristiano Ronaldo has reportedly has reached an agreement with Al Nassr to extend his contract for another year which will run until 2026. An official from the club recently told AFP that both Ronaldo and Al Nassr had reached an agreement on the extension of the contract though it hasn’t been signed and the announcement will be expected in the coming days.

Ronaldo who recently turned 40, has his contract ending in 2025 June. He came from Manchester United in January 2023 and has scored 82 times in his 90 appearances for the side. With a career goal standing at 924, Ronaldo last year had said that he would end his career with the Saudi Pro League side, which he admitted was closer than before.

His deal with the Riyadh-based club is estimated to be at $250 m, with many believing this was a desperate attempt to extend his career having played for big teams including United, Real Madrid and Juventus.

Ronaldo’s arrival has put the competition in the spotlight with many ageing football players have been coming to the Saudi Pro League including Karim Benzema and Neyemar who until recently was part of Al-Hilal before making his move back to his boyhood club Santos in Brazil during the winter transfer window. Saudi Arabia were also declared as the host for the 2034 World Cup in December last year and has helped the country with its image through sports and tourism.

Cristiano Ronaldo’s amazing stats in football

Despite not yet having the World Cup glory in his name, Ronaldo is still one of the most successful players in the game as he chases his 1,000 goals in his career. He was the highest goal scorer in the competition last year and is again chasing the Golden Boot this year with his 16 goals in the Saudi Pro League. Ronaldo is still chasing his first Saudi or continental trophy with Al Nassr. So far he has only won the Arab Club Champions Cup in 2023 with the club.

Ronaldo has scored the most goals in international football and recently in an interview confessed that he felt he was the best to have played that game pointing out that despite being right-footed, he is among the top ten who have scored with their left foot. Ronaldo said that without disrespect to greats like Messi and Maradona, he has scored in every which way known and his numbers speak for him.
