New Delhi: Japanese tennis player Naomi Osaka has been confirmed as the first participant for the HSBC Championships this summer. This year, the Queen’s club will host a WTA event for the first time since 1973. For the first time in more than five decades, the Queens of tennis will returning for a women’s WTA 500 event and the four-time Grand Slam champion has become the first participant which will be held from June 7-15.

The announcement comes as tickets for the women’s event at the Championships go on priority window sale for the fans and compete advantage members. After being confirmed as the first participant for the event, Osaka said that apart from feeling elated, she’s feeling very proud to have been named as the first women’s player selected for the event in more than 50 years.

Osaka praises The Queen’s Club

Apart from praising the coveted Championships, the tennis player also lavished praise on the historic Queen’s Club, saying that it’s matter of great happiness to get an opportunity to play at the iconic venue. As part of the tournament, the best players in women’s tennis will be in the headlines in West London to compete against each other.

Osaka, who is a former world number one, is one of the biggest names in women’s tennis, having won two Australian Open and two US Open titles in her glittering career. The seven-time WTA title winner has a record of some impressive wins on the grass in the past with reaching the semifinals in Nottingham a highlight. Osaka also stormed into the quarterfinals at s-Hertogenbosch and the third round of Wimbledon two times.

The 2025 campaign of Osaka got off to a flying start as reached her first final since returning from maternity leave last year at the ASB Classic and a third round appearance at the Australian Open 2025.
