New Delhi: Things got heated up during the 3rd ODI between Pakistan and South Africa in the ongoing tri-nation series in Pakistan when proteas batter Matthew Breetzke got involved in a heated clash with pacer Shaheen Afridi. It all started after Breetzke made a gesture while batting which didn’t go down well with Afridi. The Pakistan pacer then came in Breetzke’s way while he was taking a run, leading to a mid-pitch collision.
The duo then had a heated exchange in the middle as tempers flared during the game. The Incident took place during the 28th over of South Africa’s innings after the Proteas won the toss and decided to bat first in the game. Afridi drew the first blood for Pakistan by dismissing opening Tony de Zorzi on 22 to break the 51-run opening stand between him and South Africa captain Temba Bavuma.
However, South Africa recovered well after losing De Zorzi cheaply, thanks to a brilliant stand between Bavuma and Breetzke. The in-form Breetzke, who slammed a 150-run knock in South Africa’s last game against New Zealand, combined with Bavuma to add 119 runs for the second wicket. Things got heated up during the duo’s partnership.
A controversial gesture and a mid-pitch collision
After defending the 4th delivery of the over from Afridi, Breetzke made a gesture of hitting the Pakistan pacer with his bat as he was denied a single. His gesture left Afridi infuriated and the Pakistan pacer decided to walk towards the Proteas batter to say a few words. Later in the over, Afridi came in Brettzke’s way when he was running for a single, leading to a mid-pitch collision between the duo.
Both players were in each other’s faces after the collision as they clashed on the non-striker’s end. Afridi and Breetzke got involved in a heated argument and the Pakistan pacer also pushed the Proteas batter before the duo were separated by the on-field umpires. A clip of the incident went viral on social media.
